Stress is an unavoidable part of life, but that doesn't mean you have to let it take over. On our free webinar today, (April 4th at 7pm Eastern Time) we will discuss the differences between different kinds of stress and what you can do to bring it under control.
Stress is a psychological and physical response to any demand or uncertainty in life. In small amounts, it can provide motivation and focus. Too much stress, however, can cause anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. It can be devastating to our immune system and health.

Certain nutrient deficiencies can push stress levels through the roof. For example, B vitamins reduce stress hormones and regulate mood. Omega-3 fatty acids play a role in brain function and cognitive performance, which are compromised during periods of high stress. A balanced diet rich in whole foods is essential for managing stress. Exercise can also help, as well as practices such as yoga, meditation, and prayer.

It’s important to be aware of the different types of stress, so you can take steps to manage it before it manages you.

Negative Stress can be caused by anything from day-to-day activities to major life events. It is usually short-term, but can become long-term if corrective measures are not taken. Common causes of negative stress are work or school deadlines, financial worries, relationship problems, and disease.

Positive Stress, sometimes called “eustress” is actually a good thing. It helps to motivate us and keep us focused on task. Positive stress can help us reach goals and provide a sense of achievement. Examples of positive stress include taking on a new project, starting a business, competing in sports, and having an employment interview.

Toxic Stress occurs when we are exposed to prolonged or repeated challenges that are too severe to manage. This can lead to genuine physical and mental-health problems over time, such as depression, constant-state anxiety, substance abuse, and cardiovascular disease. Identifying the different types of stress is the first step to overcoming it.
