If Viruses Don't Kill,
What Does?

This is the second mailing of a report sent out several weeks ago. Many readers have asked to see it again and, of course, many did not see it at all the first time around.

"Viruses don’t kill” is a statement I have seen a lot lately in blogs of natural-healing practitioners.

What? Don’t we all know there are killer viruses out there? Aren’t pharmaceutical companies in a race to develop vaccines to protect against viruses? If viruses don’t kill, then why protect against them? This is the conundrum that sent me to the medical literature to find the answer.

Here is what I found: What kills can be any condition such as pneumonia or heart failure triggered by something called a cytokine storm. A cytokine is described in textbooks as a signaling agent, so named because it’s function is to travel through the blood stream and carry a signal (let’s call it a message) to every cell in the body.
The message is:

Alert! I have been sent to warn you that our beloved body has been invaded by something toxic, and it could be a serious enemy. We have not seen this threat before so we don’t know if we have a defense against it. You are hereby instructed to immediately prepare to defend yourself, and all of us, against this threat. Since we cannot tell you the exact nature of the toxicity, start now defending against everything you can think of.

The body is constantly bombarded by new threats, and they all trigger this message, which means the system is constantly in defense mode. Fortunately, most of these threats are quickly overcome by normal immune preparedness and good nutrition, so the number of cytokines triggered by new threats is offset by those no longer present from old threats, and the total remains ‘normal’.

Now, imagine that the new toxicity, not only is unrecognized and with no specific defense, but also is swarming the body at such intensity that the production of cytokines goes through the roof – a hundred or a thousand times greater than normal.
When that happens, doctors call it a cytokine storm.

This is bad news for the patient because the body responds at full throttle and produces copious amounts of general immune cells, a process called inflammation. In moderation, inflammation is a healing process but, in a cytokine storm, it can be fatal, especially if the inflammation is centered in the lungs or the heart. In effect, the immune system, itself, becomes the killer. This happens only when we are confronted by a toxin we have not previously experienced and lots of it. Many researchers say that the deaths attributed to the 1918 influenza pandemic, the SARS epidemic of 2003, the Bird Flu, Swine Flu, and the 2019-2020 Coronavirus pandemic were caused by cytokine storms.

Believe it or not, when I began to write this email, this was not my intended topic. My goal was to remind everyone that maintenance of a healthy immune system is the ultimate defense against any virus, including COVID-19. But, to do that in a meaningful way, it seemed that an understanding of what a virus does and does not do was essential.

A secondary purpose of this message was to inform everyone that a product we carry at Reality Zone, called Folium pX,  has a great record of helping the immune system do its job. All of its ingredients come from nature and, no joke, it really works. I started using it initially for removing toxic heavy metals from my system but, much to my delight, I soon discovered it also delivered powerful immune-system support as well – and that's the point of all this. Pat and I take it regularly – which is the reason we are not concerned about COVID-19, the seasonal flu, or any other pathogen, including the common cold. In today's world of panic and fear, that's a big deal.
